50th Anniversary Reunion

Brian W. Rookley

After leaving university, I became an actuarial student with a Glasgow Insurance company as I thought that the eventual financial reward would be substantial. However I soon realised how boring it was and left to do teacher training at Jordanhill College.

The following year,1965, I was appointed physics teacher at Kilmarnock Academy - in those days I was given a choice of nine schools in Ayrshire and I naturally selected the "best" one.    After two years I was about to get married and I was offered a teaching post (with a house) at Stranraer Academy (my wife`s and my home town). Two years later I became Principal Teacher of Physics - a post I really enjoyed - until I took a very welcome early retiral in 1998. (I escaped while the job was still fun).

My wife and I have now been married for 46 years and have two daughters and six grandchildren. Over these years our common interest was the family and travel and, since retiring, we have covered many corners of the world - North, South, and Central America, Australasia, China, etc.

My long-time interest is in School and Youth Rugby and it has taken me to all the home nations and Australia in my capacity as a coach to the Scotland age-grade teams.     I am still involved in coaching the Ayr Under 18 team and am a selector for the Scotland Under 18 team.
