Paul Sheridan (Sadly Deceased 27th December 2017)
After graduation from GU I spent the
next year at Jordanhill College preparing for secondary teacher
training and then proceeded to first appointment as maths teacher at
St Aloysius College, my old school.
To
get a wider view of teaching I moved to St Mungo's Academy for about 4
years, then applied for a post in Notre Dame College to teach
maths to primary students and maths post-grads.
These duties expanded when the College took on degree courses for
under grads (maths for me) ratified by CNAA.
Some years later I became a senior lecturer in the College and in the
meantime ND had been amalgamated with Craiglockart College and renamed
St Andrew's College.
The only other change in my career was when the Scottish Colleges were
further amalgamated, in our case with GU. We
became a significant part of the Curriculum Studies Dept. of GU and so
the wheel had gone about full circle for me from our graduation to my
last teaching post. In the 80s I completed an
M.Ed.
On the home front I married Patricia in
1970 and we have 4 daughters and now also 4 sons-in-law and, between them,
7 grandchildren, at least at latest count and no sign of more.
How to tell the difference between 35 and 70? No, not a
multiple of 2 but rather the ease with which we coped with 4 children
aged 1,3 5 and 7 as compared to the strain that even two loveable
grandchildren can cause in a short space of time.
