Stewart Jardine
I am married to Anne who is also a
Glasgow University Graduate, but of a much later vintage.
I have two sons Greg and Jeff, 37 and 35 respectively, both Graduates of
Strathclyde University, and a stepdaughter Emily who is 18 and is sadly
studying languages at Edinburgh University. (You can’t win them all).
After leaving University I spent a year
at Jordanhill College and entered the teaching profession at Girvan Academy
where in the next 18 years I moved from teacher of physics, through
principal teacher and on to depute headteacher.
In 1982 I returned to Carrick Academy, where I had been a pupil, as
headteacher, a strange feeling at first especially as one of my own teachers
was still there. I spent 8 happy years
there before being appointed as Chief Inspector of Education for Strathclyde
Regional Council.
In 1995 I decided to set up my own
educational consultancy business and have been working in school improvement
and effectiveness all over Scotland ever since.
My interests outside work and family
have included being a part-time professional footballer for a number of
years, mainly with Ayr United, where I am still involved as Youth Academy
Development and Welfare Officer as well as keen supporter.
After football, golf became my main sport and I have been a member at
Turnberry Golf Club for 44 years, having spent 2 years as captain and a year
as Centenary Chairman as well as helping to organise 4 Open Golf
Championships.
